Description	Oblong 213x263mm red cloth spine boards (worn to all edges & small crayon mark on covers/spine with rubbing to edges but not frayed) 44pp printed one side only. Inscription to "Edgar Spencer with Aunt Jane's love 1900" and blind stamp of W.H. Smith. Endpapers white, fore-edges red. Inner hinges strenthened with cloth, this edition stapled not sewn thus suspect slightly later first edition. Some rusting of staples & fore-edge with clear damp mark 2x1" along the margin. As mentioned by Schuster & Engen this has no illustration on the rear board which is plain thus making it Schuster & Engen 1b but that should have edges light green. Later editions are published by Frederick Warne and these had black printed titles while this has brown printing. Hard to find in good condition.
