Some signs of use and sl.edge tanning to the paper else tight, no tears, no scribbles. Prize bookplate Wesleyan Meyhodist Sunday School, Retford to Willie Turgoose dated Jan 1906 on fly leaf. *First edn 1891. Story of two brothers left alone when their mother dies trying to earn enough money to feed themselves. Often tempted, always hungry, often ill, they never steal even when a man gives them a half sovereign by mistake for a sixpence they will not spend it but look for the man who gave it to him to return it. Finally due to a brave deed in stopping a runaway horse the doctor who turns out to be the man to whom the money belonged is found and turns out to be their uncle. Much poverty and reliance on the Bible to help the boys keep honest, there is a happy ending. Scarce.
