Octavo Nice modern sprinkled half calf with marbled boards, blind tooled raised bands red title label to spine (tasteful & fitting binding for this date) 338pp titlepage mounted and foredge sl.tatty, Publisher's foreword discussing the probable author as Andrew Newport. v+(vi)+338pp Light foxing/tanning throughout and one tear with piece torn out affecting the first/last word/s? to 16 lines, the outer margin is also torn away & repaired with the loss of only about 5 letters. There are also two pages torn and neatly repaired without loss. *Written only a short time after Robinson Crusoe this was another of Defoe's quasi autobiographical efforts leaving the reader to guess wheather they are reading fiction or fact. This second edition is the first provincial printing of a rather scarce Defoe work.
