Art Nouveau bookplate of Haut on pastedown and slightly faded name at top margin of title. Endpapers earlier than the rebinding, as they and the first few preliminaries have matching worming but all but one single hole have disappeared by the first page of text. The last two leaves of the end of the second item have one worm hole in the gutter margin. There is some foxing & browning but the paper is supple and strong and entirely readable and there are no tears or signs of use. *This is the second Latin translation of Pascale's work written to defend the Jansenists from the attacks of the Jesuits and which has the additional Theses bound in. As with the French edition, so also this Latin translation of Pascal's was condemned by Pope Alexander the seventh and supposed to be Publicly burnt. It was psudonymously translated from the French into Latin for wider dissemination at Port-Royal (ee also PRINTING AND THE MIND OF MAN 140).
