Two Volumes duodecimo (142x85mm) marbled calf with title label for vol.13 and half of volume number labels (worn spine and edges with leather darkened, hinges cracked but still secure/tips worn and 1cm damage to foot of spine/one head with some chipping) Titlepage +[4]pp +191pp Titlepage +[6]pp +240pp. Bookplates of Library of American board of commissioners for foreign Missions and bookplates of Jeremiah Evarts. Some foxing mainly to first pages but neat, tight & clean. Includes Journey to Palmyra and its antiquities & Dr. Russel's Description of Aleppo but the main part of both volumes contain the Travels of the Holstein Ambassadors through Muscovy into Persia followed by Mr.Hanway's travels in the same regions. Sold as a pair as the voyages continue from vol.13 into 14 of this series of early childrens book on exploration, with all the charming required plates and the hand colored map.
