Octavo green spine cloth on plain boards (rebacked with part of old spine with rubbed label relaid/tips worn) 272pp +265*-272* +273-454pp; 164pp +[5]p Index +[1]p blank lacks lower two thirds of last index page. Some foxing & fingering to a few pages. Several gatherings printed on more tanned paper but most of the book has neat clean paper. Some other editions call for plates but here there is no evidence of anything removed or missing - the only plate is titled "Frontispiece". *Author purports to show interesting anecdotes of the dead as ghosts and he gives evidence of their influence on the affairs of mankind and the certainty of the world to come. Discusses dreams, warning premonitions, of satan, angels etc. The second work, by John Smith, is purely religious in content.
