Description
Three Volumes large octavo (in 4's), half black roan spines gilt ruled with titles & Roman numbers in gilt (head of 2 spines repaired, foot of 2 spines split to hinge, edges worn). Inscription on free endpapers "W. Drape, Saint Vincent 1837". Pencil note on Vol I piii "William Coombe, author of the 'Devil upon two sticks in England' &c. He died in London June 1823 aged 83". Vol I frontis + pictorial title + iii +[1]p Advertisement to Ninth Edtion +276pp +[1]p plate list +[3]pp blank +[4]pp Prospectus for Johnny Quae Genus & Ackermann book list; Vol II frontis + printed title advertising 3rd edition on verso + [2]pp Introduction +277pp +[1]p blank +[2]pp plate list/verso blank; Vol III frontis + pictorial title + [2] leaves (Preface & plate list both printed one side only) + 279pp. All 3 vols collated complete with all plates as listed. Some off-setting from plates to opposite page, some staining, foxing and tears repaired with paper to edges, a few small corners missing, colour marks in margin of 2 plates in Vol I. All plates are well coloured and not smudged. *Complete copies of all 3 volumes of the amusing and delightfully illustrated Syntax series, but condition only Fair [each volume also listed here for sale separately].
