Description
Large octavo (in 4's) half black roan spine gilt ruled with title & Vol. II in gilt (head of spine repaired, edges worn). Inscription on free endpaper "W. Drape, Saint Vincent 1837". Frontis + printed title advertising 3rd edition on verso + [2]pp Introduction +277pp +[1]p blank +[2]pp plate list/verso blank. Collated complete with all plates as listed. The frontis and 6th plate are mounted on near contemporary paper due to loss of top margin of 1cm and the other plate due to damage to gutter margin effecting a loss of 6cm of the floor area of the picture. Some off-setting as usual from plates to opposite page, some staining, foxing and 3 tears repaired with paper to edges without loss. End-papers probably newer. Plates are well coloured and not smudged. *Complete copy of this second volume in the amusing and delightfully illustrated Syntax series, but condition only Fair.
