Octavo contemporary blind-tooled calf (rebacked/tips worn with 2" split to one hinge but covers still firmly attached). Frontis +Titlepage +[4]pp prelims +293pp (lacks the last blank). Newer endpapers, early ownership inscriptions Joyce & Ric. Mansfield, Wm Wilson on free endpaper and top of title, numbers written on contents page, small dampstain in gutter at beginning, pages starting to brown but crisp throughout. *These delightful dialogues of Erasmus are well translated by L'Estrange, who remarks to the Reader that (apart from religious matters) "You will perhaps find matter enough of Diversion besides, to mollifie the Evil Spirit, and to turn some Part of the Severity and Bitterness of the Age, into Pity and Laughter" (WING E3213).
