Description
Octavo (13x9cm) original paper-covered boards with recently repaired spine and paper title label (tips bumped edges worn) [48] +240pp (of 356). Armorial bookplate of John Deacon on pastedown, text pages clean but very fragile, with 1.5cm hole in upper margin of pp45-76 (not affecting text). Amelung's long dedicatory epistle and his main work APOLOGIA (in 5 chapters) are here complete, but only 14pp (including second Titlepage dated 1608) remain of the final section, his RESPONSIO SPECIALIOR to Boekel's most recent attack. *Defective copy of a rare 1608 controversial Latin work on medicine and alchemy by the German physician Peter Amelung of Stendal in Saxony. He here defends his earlier work (Tractatus Primus) on the history of alchemy, against the attack of Wilhelm Boekel, another Stendal physician.
