Description
Large octavo (in 4's) half black roan spine gilt-ruled & title and vol. III in gilt (foot of spine repaired, edges worn). Inscription on free endpaper "W. Drape, Saint Vincent 1837". Frontis + pictorial title + [2] leaves (Preface & plate list both printed one side only) + 279pp. Collated complete with all plates as listed. Three plates are mounted on newer paper one being torn across without loss others to repair short tears & one due to marginal corner loss. One plate has also been inserted wrong side outwards. Some off-setting from plates to opposite page, some staining, foxing and 3 tears repaired with paper to edges and 4 text leaves have frayed margins. Last 2 leaves have been rejoined along the gutter edge and reinserted into the hinge. The plates are well coloured and not smudged. *Third volume of the amusing and delightfully illustrated Syntax series, scarcer to find on its own than the other two volumes (which are also here listed separately for sale).
